Aida

We've certainly taken on a serious challenge with our newest rescue! This little girl is so wild and skittish, it's hard to believe she'll ever be a pet, let alone a lap cat! She IS making progress, but it's happening in such tiny baby steps we can hardly measure it. Her sister, Amneris, is so totally tame and calm it's difficult to think of them being litter mates. After four weeks with us, Aida still won't let us touch her, and while she no longer runs and hides when we come into the "nursery", she doesn't make any overtures in our directions. For the first few weeks, we kept her confined in a large crate, equipped with a small carrier in which to "hide", and all of the other comforts of home. A week or so ago we started leaving the crate door open, and placing her food on a table outside. She now comes out to eat, and has started venturing around the room, and sitting on the window ledge enjoying the view. Still no touchie, though. Oh well, we have nothing but time.

This was when we first brought her home from the vet after her spay operation...

About a week later, she started feeling comfortable being out in the open with one of us in the room...

Getting even braver...

Now she's getting feisty... here she's just tried to bury her blankie in the litter box...

Amneris

This little girl has totally won my heart! She's one of the sweetest kitties I've ever known. But then, I think I've said that at least once or twice about other fur babies who've shared my life... for now, she's definitely one of the front runners. Above, she's in her second favorite place - my desk chair, and below, she's in her most favorite place... my lap. I'm spoiling her rotten, but neither she nor I care one bit!

We decided on names from the opera, Aida... lovely music, not so lovely story (that's opera for you), but one of my favorites.
